FMH Surgery - specialization in Visceral Surgery FEBS Hepato-Pancreato-Biliary Surgery and FEBS Transplant Surgery
I grew up in Bolzano (South Tyrol) and came to Switzerland after studying medicine in Innsbruck. I completed my specialist training at the University Hospital Zurich (USZ) and the cantonal hospitals in Wil and Muri. Surgery is my passion. I enjoy working in a team and discussing complex cases. I have specialized in the treatment of liver, biliary tract and pancreatic diseases. I am convinced of the progress of surgery through innovative technologies. I therefore like to operate with robot-assisted systems and try to push the technical limits.
Focus area Liver, bile duct and pancreatic surgery, minimally invasive and robot-assisted surgery, tumor surgery, general surgery, vascular access surgery (shunt systems, Port-a-Cath)

Research
During my research rotation in the laboratory, I worked on innovative mechanisms to attenuate liver ischemia-reperfusion injury in a mouse model.
Clinically, the focus was on organ allocation criteria. When Switzerland introduced the MELD score in 2007 and moved to a national allocation policy, we analyzed the impact of the new system on postoperative survival, perioperative morbidity and costs. And developed a new score (BAR score - balance of risk) that considers equity and benefit in organ allocation in the MELD era.
My current research focus is on the innovative treatment of cancer, primarily personalized medicine.
